Event Overview

Join us at the Annual E.G. Scott Microbiology Symposium. This symposium is designed as an update for microbiology technologists, laboratory directors, infectious disease physicians and other professional on the current issues in clinical microbiology. Topics covered will include: Microbiological Diagnosis of Zoonotic Bacteria, Update 2024-25 Flu A/ respiratory Viral Season and Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza, Microbiology Jeopardy, Challenging Antimicrobial Susceptibility Case Studies, Challenging Pediatric Case Studies.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for specialty physicians, primary care physicians, microbiology technologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical laboratory scientists.

Statement of Need

Many lab professionals may not receive adequate training specifically focused on zoonotic diseases. This can lead to a lack of awareness and understanding of these infections.
Communication Gaps: Poor communication between researchers, policymakers, and lab professionals can hinder the dissemination of crucial information needed for diagnosing zoonotic diseases.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the pathogenesis, epidemiology and laboratory diagnosis of major zoonotic bacteria.
  2. Discuss respiratory viral seasonal trends.
  3. Recognize the approaches & guidelines for respiratory viral diagnosis.
  4. Appreciate the value of respiratory viral surveillance for identifying outbreaks of evolving respiratory viral pathogens, including the highly pathogenic influenza A H5N1.
