Overview
A training to help pediatric primary care providers recognize the unique characteristics of pediatric bipolar disorder in terms of clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, and epidemiology. Treatment options, including psychopharmacology and therapy, will also be discussed.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, primary care physicians, specialty physicians, physician assistants, advanced clinical practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers .
Statement of Need
Traditionally, pediatric and family practitioners have not managed children with complex psychiatric needs and it would not have been part of their nursing, pediatric or family residency training.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
1. Introduce historical contet and epidemiology of pediatric bipolar disorder2. Define bipolar I and II disorders and their presentation in children
3. Explore neurobiology, differential diagnoses, and clinical considerations in pediatric bipolar disorder
4. Present treatment options for bipolar disorders in children
