Overview
The ChristianaCare Trauma Symposium brings together multidisciplinary experts to explore current best practices and innovations in trauma care. This full-day educational program features a keynote on trauma performance improvement by Dr. Mark Cipolle and sessions covering pediatric trauma, limb salvage, injury prevention, trauma rehabilitation, EMS best practices, blood conservation, and trauma transport considerations. The symposium also highlights the 30th anniversary of the Delaware State Trauma System and includes opportunities for networking through vendor exhibits and interactive discussions designed to enhance trauma care across the continuum.
Target Audience
This event is intended for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Residents, Medical Students, Allied Health Professionals, and EMS Professionals.
Statement of Need
Across trauma centers and care teams, there is inconsistent application of standardized trauma care processes due to variations in resources, team composition, and knowledge of best practices. This variability can lead to gaps in adherence to trauma performance improvement principles, unclear role delineation within trauma teams, and inconsistent implementation of current care guidelines. Wide variation or failure to apply a systematic approach to trauma care has the potential to negatively impact patient outcomes. This educational activity is designed to address these identified gaps by reinforcing evidence-based trauma performance improvement methods, clarifying team roles, and promoting consistent application of current trauma management standards across centers.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
- Explain the key components of a trauma performance improvement process and describe how a structured program supports consistent, high-quality patient outcomes.
- Define and differentiate the roles of the Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) and the Trauma Clinical Leader and discuss how each contributes to effective trauma care within the trauma center team.
- Engage in learning related to injury prevention and discuss ways to become involved in injury prevention programs
