Target Audience
This activity is intended for specialty physicians, primary care physicians, microbiology technologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical laboratory scientists.
Statement of Need
There is a need to understand the landscape of mycobacterial testing methods. There are updates, changes and nuances to antimicrobial susceptibility testing that impact management of mycobacterial infections. Novel fungal organism are causing infections and need to be detected by microbiologists and treated by clinicians.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
- Explain available methods of mycobacterial identification.
- Discuss methods and updates in phenotypic and genotypic testing of mycobacteria and understand changes and nuances in testing guidelines.
- Explain the spectrum and category of fungal disease.
