Overview

This full day educational symposium is designed for regional healthcare providers who share an interest in perinatal palliative care.  The topics covered in this symposium will include methods of effective communication as well as avenues for emotional/moral support in our work.
 

Target Audience

This course is intended for obstetricians, neonatologists, pediatricians, other physicians, nurse practitioners, labor & delivery, NICU, maternity, and hospice nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other health care professionals.
 

Statement of Need

There exists a gap in how to effectively and compassionately communicate with families and staff during a NICU hospitalization due to little available research, not emphasized in traditional medical/nursing teaching.
 

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

  1. Implement techniques for effective and compassionate communication with families and staff.
  2. Recognize situations in which ethics support can be helpful for staff.
  3. Recognize the value of the emotional work done in caring for patients.

Registration for CCHS employees: $95 (“Day of” registration, if seating permits: $105)
Registration for non-CCHS employees: $125 (“Day of” registration, if seating permits: $135)
Emeritus physicians and non-CCHS students: $35
CCHS residents, fellows and students: No charge

From I-95, southbound: Take Exit 4B onto Route 58 west (Churchman's Rd.). Follow Route 58 one mile. Turn left at the light to enter Christiana Hospital campus.
From I-95, northbound: Take Exit 4B onto Route 7/Route 1 north. Take Exit 166 onto Route 58 west (Churchman's Rd.). Follow Route 58 for six-tenths of a mile. Turn left at the light to enter Christiana Hospital campus.
