Overview

Join the Medical Society of Delaware for a two-hour continuing medical education activity exploring the evolving landscape of wearable technology in clinical practice. This session will begin with a keynote address by Martha Hall, PhD, Director of the University of Delaware’s Innovation Health & Design Lab. Dr. Hall will discuss both the clinical and practical implications of health care wearables, focusing on real-world integration, patient engagement, and data-driven care.
Following the keynote, a multidisciplinary panel—including specialists from cardiology, endocrinology, sleep medicine, and legal counsel—will discuss the wearables they recommend to patients, the clinical impact of these technologies, and related liability considerations. The activity aims to equip medical professionals with current knowledge to make informed decisions about integrating wearables into patient care.

Target Audience

This audience includes primary care physicians, research physicians, residents, and physicians of all specialties and subspecialties.

Statement of Need

While wearable health technologies are rapidly advancing, many clinicians lack up-to-date knowledge of their capabilities, clinical validation, and regulatory landscape. Gaps exist in understanding how to interpret and integrate wearable-generated data into care workflows, particularly in chronic disease management, preventive health, and early detection. Additionally, clinicians often face challenges addressing patient concerns related to device accuracy, privacy, and accessibility. Clear guidance on best practices, ethical considerations, and reimbursement opportunities is essential to ensure these tools are used effectively to enhance patient outcomes and engagement. This education session will equip participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to bridge these gaps and confidently incorporate wearable technology into clinical practice.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

1. Explore cutting-edge wearable technologies and how they’re transforming the way we monitor, diagnose, and treat patients.
2. Discuss the real-world advantages, challenges, and privacy considerations of wearable devices in health care.
3. Discover practical ways to integrate wearable data into your workflow to boost patient engagement and outcomes.
