Overview

This event addresses — and hopes to one day help eliminate — cancer disparities. Featuring exciting speakers, panel discussions, and more. The Delaware Cancer Consortium retreat will include The Honorable Bethany Hall Long, Lieutenant Governor, State of Delaware and an informative presentation on Cancer Disparities by Kandace P. McGuire, MD FACS, Professor of Surgery, Chief of Breast Surgery, Senior Medical Director, Cancer Service Line at Virginia Commonwealth University, Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center among many other exciting guests and speakers.


Target Audience

This activity is intended for all physicians from all specialties, pharmacists,physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners, as well as residents, and medical students, pharmacists, and social workers. 


Statement of Need

There is a need to decrease racial disparities in breast and lung cancer screening and treatment. Integrate lung cancer treatment methods in practice. Utilize the goals and objectives outlined in the 2022 Delaware Cancer Consortium five-year plan to improve performance, patient care, and outcomes.


Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

  1. Describe the factors that lead to disparities in breast cancer 
  2. List the lung cancer prevention recommendations 
  3. Interpret factors related to breast and lung cancer survivorship


Accreditation Statement

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Medical Society of Delaware and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Section - Cancer Prevention & Control Bureau. The Medical Society of Delaware is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

It is the policy of the Medical Society of Delaware (MSD) to comply with the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education (CME). Credit Designation Statement

The Medical Society of Delaware designates this live activity for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
