Activity Overview
Suicide is a public health crisis. suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth 10-24 years of age. Suicide is preventable.
Join Mark S. Borer, MD, DLFAPA, DFAACAP, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Consultant with DCPAP during September Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to learn how you can contribute to screening, support and treatment of youth at risk for suicide and self-injurious behavior.
Facing Youth Suicide Risk: Optimism Through Action Before & Since COVID-19 will focus on risk factors and warning signs of suicidality, aggravation, SIB drivers and triggers, plus assessment tools and corresponding support and treatment methods providers can employ to address these.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for physicians, primary care physicians, specialty physicians, physician assistants, advanced clinical practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and all clinicians and professionals working with youth, birth - age 21
Statement of Need
There is a need in knowledge of how best to assess and approach suicidal behavior in youth, to have youth feel supported after assessment and to decrease risk of suicidal action through effective interventions.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
- Cite risk factors and warning signs for suicide, and incorporate these into their assessments of youth.
- List and utilize screening tools and their application to assessment of suicide risk in teens.
- Apply factors to help decrease suicide risk.
- Describe and apply therapeutic techniques to treatment of suicidal youth.
