Overview
This first annual ChristianaCare Trauma Symposium aims to reinvigorate trauma specific education for healthcare providers in the state of Delaware and surrounding areas. Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Glen Tinkoff. He will be sharing his talk on trauma systems of care and their benefits. We will delve into other topics like massive transfusion, managing open fractures, trauma transfers, pediatric gun violence, and more. Throughout the conference, there will be opportunities to network and gain knowledge that is useful and relevant to your role and serves to improve quality of care delivered.
Target Audience
This event is intended for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Residents, Medical Students, Allied Health Professionals, and EMS Professionals.
Statement of Need
There are differing levels of trauma care centers entail different resources and capabilities. Trauma care providers need to implement a systematic approach to ensure optimal care. For this to occur, they require a broad knowledge base related to evidence based practice/outcomes and clinical guidelines in trauma.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:
1. Describe the use of in situ simulations to evaluate team effectiveness and medical management during trauma codes and recognize the importance of Team STEPPS strategies.2. Recognize the hallmarks of operative management versus non-operative management practices in patients with solid organ injuries.
3. Discuss best practices surrounding open fracture management including antibiotic therapy.
