Target Audience

This activity is intended for primary care physicians, specialty physicians (Internal Medicine, Ob/Gyn), Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Care Coordinators, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and Care Managers.


Statement of Need

Lack of provider knowledge around screening, management and resources for pregnant and postpartum women living with substance use disorder. 


Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

1.  Understand the scope of opioid use disorder among pregnant and postpartum people and the impact on the health of mothers and infants.
2.  Assess and address opioid use disorder in pregnant and postpartum people and provide referrals to treatment. 
3. Identify barriers to care and develop mitigation strategies.
4. Explain care considerations for pregnant and postpartum people and infants born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS)/neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS).
