Overview

This educational opportunity is designed to provide an update on diabetes and diabetes related co-morbidities, reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis, recent advances in treatment and to meet identified needs of diabetes clinicians in this area. This year’s faculty will present on an array of topics: the importance of weight management with surgical and medical treatment options, updates in standards of care, and caring for the pediatric population with diabetes.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for all physicians from all specialties, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners, as well as residents, and medical students. Diabetes affects all providers of medical care. The specific method of employing the information that is learned will be dependent upon each individual's role.

Statement of Need

TCFRD is considered a pediatric disorder. Patients are living longer. PCPs need to understand CFRD with it's unique pathophysiology.
GLP-1 RAs are widely used for diabetes and obesity. They provide benefits on other organ systems. This is not widely known or understood.
SDB, such as sleep apnea, is very common in people with diabetes. The disorder can be challenging to diagnose and manage. The benefit of treatment on glucose control is not well known.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

  1. Discuss cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD).
  2. Discuss the diabetes drugs called GLP-1 RAs will be examined for effects beyond glucose lowering.
  3. Discuss the effects of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) on diabetes will be reviewed.
